Hours after polls closed on Tuesday, Nov. 7, several mayoral candidates in Westchester municipalities discovered whether their campaigns had succeeded. Some of these results included:

Yonkers:

Incumbent Mayor Mike Spano, a Democrat, managed to beat Republican candidate Anthony Merante in order to secure a fourth term in office. Spano earned 61 percent of the votes, while Merante earned 36 percent.

"I feel honored and privileged you have once again entrusted me to lead the city I love. Let’s continue this renaissance together," Spano said in a statement on social media.

Mount Vernon:

Incumbent Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, a Democrat who ran unopposed, secured a second term in office.

"Thank you for your support Mount Vernon!" Patterson-Howard wrote on social media after her win, adding, "We are moving forward together!"

New Rochelle:

City Councilwoman Yadira Ramos-Herbert, a Democrat, will succeed current Mayor Noam Bramson, who announced in November 2022 that he would not be seeking another term after 16 years in the office. Ramos-Herbert earned 56 percent of the votes and beat out her opponent, Republican Louis J. Trangucci, who earned 44 percent.

"A person of exceptional character, integrity, and intellect — and a history-maker — Yadira will be an outstanding mayor for all of New Rochelle," Bramson said in a statement, adding, "It gives me special pleasure to hand the baton to a friend and colleague for whom I have the greatest admiration."

Mamaroneck

Incumbent Mayor Tom Murphy, a Democrat, was beaten by newcomer Sharon Torres, who earned 54 percent of votes.

"It has been a pleasure to serve the Village these many years. I congratulate Sharon Torres and Nora Lucas and wish them the best," Murphy said in a statement on social media following his loss.
